Open lecture for the public

Block your calendars! On April 17th, our post doc Lina Bergman and PhD researcher Anahita Amirpour will hold a open lecture about postoperative neurocognitive recovery for the public at Vetenskapsfestivalen (Europe´s biggest popular scientific event) in Göteborg. The lecture is free of charge.

Annual Research meeting

  

In November 2023, PeriBrainCare held it’s annual scientific meeting at Karolinska Institutet. Researches, PhDs and postdocs presented ongoing research related to cognition and postoperative recovery.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

In November 2023 Lina Bergman started a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in PeriBrainCare, granted by the Strategic Research Area Health Care Science (SFO-V) at Karolinska Insitutet. Lina will coordinate our latest project, the ECPON study.

Grant from Vetenskapsrådet (VR)

Professor Ulrica Nilsson receives 2 400 000 SEK from VR for the ECPON study. The project aims to investigate postoperative cogntive recovery. The study will be performed in collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and Sahlgrenska University Hospital and is planned to start in autumn 2024.

Ulrica Nilsson receives grant from Strategic Research Area Health Care Science

We are happy to announce that Professor Ulrica Nilsson have been awarded a grant of 600.000 SEK from the Strategic Research Area Health Care Science (SFO-V) at Karolinska Insitutet. The grant will be used for the ECPON-study, a research project aiming to investigate postoperative cognitive recovery among older people undergoing cardiac surgery.

The Mälardalen Area Doctoral School in Healthcare Science (MoF-V)

In May 2023 Lina Bergman was granted funding for a PhD student position in Mälardalen area doctoral school in healthcare sciences for the project Enhanced Continuity of Postoperative care for Older persons in their Neurocognitive recovery after cardiac surgery (the ECPON- study). The school is a partnership between the Karolinska Institute, Uppsala University, Mälardalen University, and Sophiahemmet University.

Clinical study at Ersta Hospital has started

In January 2023 we started including the first patient to our clinical study at Ersta Hospital in Stockholm. We will recruit 50 patients undergoing planned surgery and the aim is to examine cognitive performance before surgery and after surgery with digital neuropsychological tests. We will also interview the patients 1 month after surgery to explore subjective symtoms of delayed neurocognitive recovery.

The American Academy of Nursing Award

The American Academy of Nursing announced Professor Ulrica Nilsson as one of the selected 250 distinguished nurse leaders to be inducted into the 2022 Class of Fellows. Professor Nilsson was recognized for her significant contributions to health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, on October 27-29, 2022 in Washington, DC.

Our PhD students Anahita Amirpour & Karin Liander held an oral presentation about brain health after surgery and presented preliminary findings from their studies at the national conference in anesthesia and intensive care (SFAI/ANIVA) in Uppsala, Sweden.
